Social Media for Business – How to Optimize your Facebook Page

facebook like handFacebook for 2015 has become pretty much a pay-to-play service, therefore most of your promotional content you may post will go unnoticed by your fans and followers. However Facebook is still an important tool to have in your marketing toolbox…following is the complete breakdown on how to optimize your Facebook page for your business.

Business owners should consider using Facebook as either their main or alternative marketing strategy. This revolutionary social media site has taken the world by storm, and in a couple of years, has generated the following numbers (data is official Q1 data from Facebook):

– There are 1.11 billion Facebook users
– There are 665 million active Facebook users daily
– There are 50 million Facebook pages
– There are 751 million Facebook mobile users
– Average daily Facebook likes is 4.5 billion
– Average number of page likes per Facebook user is 40

The list goes on, but these numbers are the main focus as to why business owners should never ignore Facebook. At any given time, your Facebook page could be liked by a fraction of those 665 daily Facebook users. Even if your page has garnered a thousand likes, it can still do wonders for boosting your business’s traffic, regardless if you have a physical office or an online store.

If you want to attract more Facebook users to your page, here are a few tips on how you can optimize it for search engine visibility and increased Facebook visibility:

1.) Include the complete name of your business – Don’t skimp on your business name on Facebook. It’s a good way of building your brand and your existing customers could be looking for you. For example, if your customers know you as ABC Laundry Centre, that should be your Facebook page name. Having your complete business name is also important because there’s a chance that your business may have the same name as another business, like ABC Consultancy.

2.) Include complete details – Your business address and contact info should be posted on your page’s ABOUT US or ABOUT section. This should give your customers an idea on where to find you or how to get in touch with you outside of Facebook.

3.) Provide proper tags and names for your videos and images – Your images and videos should have proper tags, like if you’re showcasing a new gaming rig then your photo should have the tag or title of “New Gaming Rig”. It should be relevant to the content you’re posting.

4.) Provide links when necessary – When posting a status, Facebook creates a thumbnail of any link to a website. This should make it more enticing to click on because your viewers already have a glimpse of what the link contains. When posting content, whether it’s image or an article, try to insert your website’s link when necessary. Don’t spam though.

It’s really easy to optimize Facebook pages. If a 13 year old kid can run a page, I’m betting so can you.

Facebook’s New Timeline for Business

Facebook has released Timeline for brand pages. The layout features a large cover photo, with a small profile or logo image in the lower left-hand corner. The cover photo is a space to express a brand identity, rather than push contact or purchase information. The Page timeline is along the right side of the screen. Photos, events, and custom apps are now easier to find beneath the cover photo. Check out our Facebook page to see an example.

SuperCharge Your Groupon Promotions

Groupon is a daily deal site that promotes local business. They are very good at writing offers that sell. The way their site is designed allows these great conversions to occur. The drawbacks to Groupon and other type of daily deal offers is that they don’t give you the list of individuals who purchase your deal and they incrementally send you your money, usually it’s sent in 3 payments. For most small businesses this can spell suicide unless you come up with a way to upsell these Groupon customers.

Here is how I’ve personally helped clients crush their Groupon offer:

1. Run a Facebook and Google ad to the Groupon page to drive a ton of traffic. Do not rely only Groupon itself.

2. A week before the campaign, start promoting heavily on Facebook. You can send messages and tell people on your fan page that you’re about to run this special promotion.

3. You will have hundreds of potential customer names in a database and they will promote your business for you. As a small business owner this is the hottest marketing strategy you can use to promote your business if done correctly.

Groupon is a traffic and conversion machine. They have their own traffic and will promote your business for you. Personally, I believe that the cost of their marketing efforts are too high, but for those of you who feel that this is an option for you I will give you a way to crush your Groupon deal offers.

Now, here is how you can really turn your deal into real hard cash-

Once a client buys the Groupon voucher, you can send them to a special website which you’ll set up. At this site you’ll give them instructions on how to claim their voucher and more importantly, you’ll collect all their information immediately. This is where most small business owners drop the ball on this.

You can also run a free trial offer and ask people to sign up for a $1 or you can offer a free product or service in exchange for their personal information. In this way, you can collect their credit card, email and mobile phone information, essential if you offer some type of recurring product or service. You can also use QR or SMS to gather customer info as well.
Finally a week after the Groupon promotion, you should run another special promotion to all those who bought the product or service. Offer a voucher of slightly higher value for them to share with their friends and family and see the magic begin to happen.
You’ll begin to build your own database of hundreds of new clients as well as the ability to promote to them and their family on a monthly basis.
